Run a pilot project with Hana Express!
You do not need a complete S/4 HANA installation or SAP Leonardo. Hana Express is enough!
A quote from the "SAP HANA Developer Guide for SAP HANA XS Advanced Model" in version 2.0 SPS 04.
On page 675 it says a little cryptic:
"@ sap / xb-msg-amqp-v091. This package provides a client implementation for AMQP v0.9.1"
AMQP is one of the protocols used for the Internet of Things and SAP provides a module for this protocol!
And even for free and without license fees! (By the way, the Developers Guide has 1270 pages).
I tested this with the similar protocol MQTT and it works!
Are you interested and are you migrating to S/4 HANA? Or do you want to start the migration?
No problem, HANA Express can be installed on a separate server.
The hardware requirements are moderate, I recommend 32 GBit RAM and 120 GByte hard disk space.
Access to the HANA Express data is also possible from Netweaver and R3, the HANA Express database is simply integrated as a secondary DB and can then be queried with ABAP.
This is how you can find out at moderate costs whether you get added value with IoT or not.
